Hi! My name is Michael Zimmerman.
My love of building and strong sense of environmental stewardship stem from growing up in Golden BC with a professional environmentalist mother and a father who is a hobby woodworker. During high school, woodwork was where I excelled, which earned me the Tradesman Award at graduation.
Asking myself what I truly loved doing led me to start a carpentry apprenticeship with an expert carpenter in 2000. After completing my apprenticeship in 2004, I worked for a variety of high-end luxury home builders in Canmore and at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden BC.
In 2008, I started Zimmerman Construction with a highly skilled crew of qualified carpenters and apprentices who share my passion for building. We take on a limited number of projects, building between four to six homes a year, and offering complete project management services.
Many of the homes that we build employ various sustainable design and construction strategies, whether it is geothermal heat, capturing solar energy, adding additional insulation, or other energy saving measures. We are well versed in net zero and LEED homes as well as Passive House design and building standards. I keep current with advances in building science and materials by regularly attending courses, receiving trade publications, and thoroughly researching developments in the industry. The difference between a nice home and a great home is in the details. I pay close attention to every specific, from the proportions of window trim to the width of grout lines, because choices like these affect the overall feel of a home. I always encourage my clients to be involved in the process, either in person, or through pictures and over the phone.
Building a new home should be a rewarding experience; the team at Zimmerman Construction brings the skill, passion, and experience you need to build the home that’s just right for you.
